Do you suffer from a sensitive scalp and still want to dye your hair? You can. In this blog, the Keune hair experts tell you what to look out for when dyeing your hair if you have a sensitive scalp. They also recommend different products that are best to use.
What is a sensitive scalp? At Keune we consider the scalp sensitive when you suffer from redness, itching, irritation or a burning sensation. There are a variety of factors such as air pollution, stress, vitamin deficiency or the use of harsh products that make the scalp sensitive.

How to prepare your sensitive scalp for a color treatment?Do you have a sensitive scalp and want to color your hair? Then make sure not to wash your hair three days in advance. This keeps the natural protective layer of oils on your scalp intact, making the hair dye less likely to irritate your scalp.
An extra tip: don't wash your hair too often and don't use water that's too hot. The scalp is very sensitive and can easily dry out. If you wash your hair, use a shampoo for sensitive scalps, like our Derma Sensitive Shampoo.
Tell the hairdresser if you have a sensitive scalp. They can then use products for sensitive scalp. Before or during dyeing, the hairdresser can apply a lotion or spray. This soothes the scalp and reduces irritation.
After coloring, they may choose to wash out your hair twice with an after color shampoo so no excess product is left in your hair. Then they can reapply the Derma Sensitive Lotion to soothe the scalp again.
Which dye is suitable for a sensitive scalp? The hairdresser will choose an appropriate hair dye for sensitive scalps, such as one without ammonia. If you go to a Keune salon. Then ask about our So Pure Color or Semi Color.
So Pure Color is a plant-based hair dye. It contains nourishing protein for healthy hair and is rich in vitamins A and E to strengthen the hair and scalp.
Keune's Semi Color is a demi-permanent hair color. It contains natural ingredients including "Boswellia Serrata" and "bisabolol" to protect and soothe the scalp. Bisabolol has similar effects to Chamomile. These botanical ingredients reduce inflammation and itching of the scalp.
What to do if you have an allergic reaction to hair dye?We recommend that you schedule an allergy test at your hairdresser's before having your hair colored. The test involves applying a bit of hair dye behind your ear or on the inside of your arm. For the next two days, keep an eye on how your skin reacts. Do you have no redness, itching, irritation or burning? Then you can color your hair with this dye.
Report it right away if you experience itching or burning during the dyeing process. The hairdresser can rinse out the dye right away.
It's also possible to have an allergic reaction after dyeing your hair. An allergic reaction often builds up. It starts with an itch but can get worse each time you color your hair. Do you experience severe itching, irritation or a severe burning sensation? Then make an appointment with a dermatologist.
In the meantime, take extra care of your scalp with our Derma Sensitive Lotion or the Vital Nutrition Protein Spray . Brush your hair gently and touch your scalp as little as possible.
